OPTIONS FOR LIFE is a voluntary organisation and registered charity (no. 1064848), which enables people with a learning disability to advance their personal development and lead a full life within the community, using the support and friendship of staff and volunteers. As part of a team, the post-holder will plan and provide a varied and interesting programme of community based leisure and social activities for people with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD) and complex needs, using a ‘person centred planning’ approach, ensuring all activities are appropriate to service users’ culture, needs and personal choices. The post-holder will provide care and support to service users, which will include administering medication and the use of PEG feeding systems, and may be required to work on a 1:1 basis with a service user who displays challenging behaviour. We are looking for a reliable and committed team-player for this post, with good communication and listening skills, a warm and friendly personality, the ability to provide personal care and a commitment to the inclusion of people with PMLD in all aspects of the organisation. Essential requirements – 6 months prior experience of working with people with PMLD and complex needs, experience of implementing strategies to manage challenging behaviour and a relevant health or social care qualification (e.g. NVQ 2). It is desirable for the post-holder to have a full driving licence with D1 eligibility (i.e. can drive a 17-seater vehicle), willingness to drive/escort on the minibus for minimum 2 hours per day and a knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance.
