OPTIONS FOR LIFE is a voluntary organisation and registered charity (no. 1064848), which enables people with a learning disability to advance their personal development and lead a full life within the community, using the support and friendship of staff and volunteers. As part of a team, the post-holder will plan and provide a varied and interesting programme of community based leisure and social and vocational activities for people with learning disabilities, using a ‘person centred planning’ approach, ensuring all activities are appropriate to service users’ culture, needs and personal choices. The post-holder may be required to work on a 1:1 basis with a service user who displays challenging behaviour.
We are looking for a reliable and committed team-player for this post, with a knowledge of, and an interest in, a vocational or practical subject (e.g. gardening, woodwork, etc). The successful applicant will have good communication and listening skills, a warm and friendly personality, the ability to provide personal care and a commitment to the inclusion of people with learning disabilities in all aspects of the organisation.
Essential requirements – the post-holder must have a full driving licence with D1 eligibility (i.e. can drive a 17-seater vehicle), and be willing to drive a minibus for minimum 2 hours per day. 6 months prior experience of working with people with learning disabilities is essential, as is a relevant health or social care qualification (e.g. NVQ 2) or the willingness to work towards gaining such a qualification. A knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance is desirable.
