SUPPORTING PEOPLE

We offer support for people with learning disabilities who have their own homes, to enable them to enjoy a more secure environment and greater independence.

It may include support to help people manage their homes, budget their money, and improve their health, safety and security, and access a range of local and/or specialist services.

"Jo helps me with my homework and revising and we go on the internet or shopping and talk about healthy eating. I love going to the supermarket, I zoom round and know where everything is. "I wouldn’t cope without Jo, she’s my friend and she shows me how to get grease off the walls in my kitchen and defrost the ice box." Rosie[IMAGE- A participant is supported in the home]

PARENT SUPPORT SERVICE

A holistic service offering proactive and preventative support to each family member where one or both parents have a learning disability. Workers visit families either weekly or twice weekly and work on mutually agreed issues, which include parenting skills, attending the child’s medical appointments, promoting support from neighbours and extended family, sorting out debts, assisting with replacing furniture and clothing, and the welfare of family pets.

MAKE MORE OF YOUR MONEY

One-to-one advice and support handling personal finances, including managing debt, planning a budget, paying bills and joining our own credit union. It refers to other finance-related services if required eg. Welfare Rights and Citizens Advice Bureau.

LIFE COACHING

One-to-one support and encouragement to help participants define what they want to achieve in life and take steps towards positive and permanent changes. It may include support with health and fitness, leisure and hobbies, friends and relationships, daytime opportunities or work, and home and living.

HEALTH ACTION PLANNING

A confidential, comprehensive record of specific health needs and status that is put together by participants, with support from their support workers and any medical practitioners. It enables participants to be more aware of their health needs and what they need to do to stay healthy, and to keep a record of health care appointments.
