OPTIONS FOR LIFE is a voluntary organisation and registered charity (no. 1064848), which enables people with a learning disability to advance their personal development and lead a full life within the community, using the support and friendship of staff and volunteers.  We offer a range of different services and employ approximately 85 staff.  The organisation has a Christian philosophy, operates a Smoke Free policy, is an Investor in People, an Investor in Volunteers and has been awarded Disability Two-Ticks accreditation. 

We currently have the following vacancies:

 

SUPPORT WORKER

(High Flyers - Pegasus House, Wombourne)

Permanent Post

Full-time (37.5 hours/week) 9.00am - 4.30pm Monday to Friday

Salary £12,885 - £14,730 - starting salary will depend on qualifications and/or experience

As part of the High Flyers team (based in Wombourne), the post-holder will plan and deliver a varied and interesting programme of community based leisure and social activities for adults with learning disabilities using a ‘person centred planning’ approach.  The post-holder will also be required to work with service users who display challenging behaviour.

 

Duties will include:

  • providing care and support to service users, which will include administering medication and providing intimate personal care
  • carrying out basic administration tasks

 

Essential criteria:

  • prior experience of engaging with people with learning disabilities, mental health problems and challenging behaviour
  • a relevant qualification (e.g. NVQ 2 in Health & Social Care) or the willingness to work towards this qualification
  • good inter-personal and communication skills
  • a warm, friendly and approachable personality
  • in possession of a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle which meets minimum safety standards and which must be insured for business use (at your cost)
  • the ability to take part in active sessions with service users
  • the ability to complete basic paperwork

 

Desirable criteria:

  • experience of administering medication
  • the ability to use Makaton
  • driving licence showing D1 eligibility (i.e. can drive a 17-seater vehicle)
  • experience of driving a minibus
  • a knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance
  • a knowledge of health and safety issues, including risk assessments

 

The successful applicant will be required to prove their eligibility for UK employment, will undergo an Enhanced CRB and will be checked against the ISA barred lists for vulnerable adults and children.


 

SUPPORT WORKER - DAY OPPORTUNITIES (ART AND CRAFT)

PERMANENT POST - 37.5 HOURS/WEEK

9.00am - 4.30pm Monday - Friday

Salary £14,730

 

As part of a team, the post-holder will plan and deliver a varied and interesting programme of community based leisure and social activities for adults with learning disabilities using a ‘person centred planning’ approach.  The post-holder will also take the lead in planning and delivering art and craft sessions for service users using a wide range of mediums and materials.  The post-holder may be required to work on a 1:1 basis with a service user who has intimate personal care needs and/or displays challenging behaviour.

 

Essential criteria:

  • experience of planning and delivering art / craft sessions using a range of mediums and materials, to meet a wide range of interests and abilities
  • good inter-personal and communication skills
  • a warm, friendly and approachable personality
  • a qualification relevant to working with people with learning disabilities, (e.g. NVQ 2 in Health & Social Care) or the willingness to work towards this qualification
  • the ability to take part in active sessions with service users

 

Desirable criteria:

  • experience of developing saleable art and craft items
  • prior experience of engaging with people with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour
  • in possession of a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle which meets minimum safety standards and which must be insured for business use (at your cost)
  • experience of administering medication
