Our history

Options for Life was started in June 1988 by a group of volunteers in Oldbury, West Midlands. The original vision was to establish a project which would enable people with a learning disability to develop skills and be treated with value and dignity in the community. This vision still holds true today.

The organisation began with funding of just £18,000 a year for three years from the Opportunities for Volunteers scheme, and an increasing number of weekly sessions were developed.

The organisation then developed over a number of years to the point where we now have a staff team of over 80 people and support over 200 people with learning disabilities each week. Options for Life provide a range of community based workshops and skills sessions from our community hubs.  Our Family Support and one to one support continue to provide high quality, preventative support to individuals and families in their own homes.
