A Wild Adventure at Twycross Zoo!
The participants from Options for Life enjoyed a fantastic day out at Twycross Zoo on 14th September, 2026, creating wonderful memories while exploring the amazing world of wildlife. The trip provided an excellent opportunity for everyone to get out into the fresh air, socialise with friends, learn about different animals, and enjoy a fun-filled day together.
Upon arriving at the zoo, the group were excited to begin their adventure. The participants spent the day walking around the beautiful grounds, taking in the sights and sounds of the many different animals that call Twycross Zoo home. From towering giraffes to fascinating reptiles and exotic birds, there was something to capture everyone's interest. One participant was particularly amazed by the reptiles, spending time observing a large snake resting amongst the branches in its enclosure.
One of the highlights of the day was the bird-feeding experience. Participants had the chance to interact with some of the zoo's friendly birds, and there was a magical moment when one bird landed directly on a participant’s hand to be fed. This unexpected encounter brought smiles all around and created a memory that will be talked about for a long time. Experiences like this help build confidence, encourage engagement with nature, and provide exciting opportunities to try something new.
The group also enjoyed seeing the giraffes up close, watching them move gracefully around their enclosure. Throughout the day, participants shared their favourite animal sightings, took photographs together, and enjoyed spending quality time with friends and support staff. A relaxing lunch break gave everyone the opportunity to recharge before continuing their exploration around the zoo.
Days out like this are about much more than having fun. They help participants build social connections, increase confidence in community settings, improve physical wellbeing through exercise, and encourage curiosity about the natural world. Visiting places such as Twycross Zoo allows participants to develop independence while enjoying meaningful experiences in a supportive environment.
Everyone returned home with plenty of stories to tell and smiles on their faces after a truly successful day. A big thank you to the team at Twycross Zoo for helping to make the visit so enjoyable.
