Step into the Wizarding World: A Magical Harry Potter-themed World Book Day at Acorn Lodge

World Book Day is a wonderful celebration of literature that takes place annually in March. It is a day that encourages people of all ages to celebrate the joys of reading and to embrace the power of storytelling. This year, the theme for our World Book Day celebration at Acorn Lodge was Harry Potter, and what a magical day it was!

From the moment the participants arrived, they were transported into the world of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The Acorn Lodge was adorned with Harry Potter-themed decorations, including banners from each Hogwarts house and magical creatures hanging from the ceiling. In addition, there was a magical mirror of Erised which, according to Albus Dumbledore, showed the ‘deepest, most desperate desires of the heart’. Finally, participants dressed up as Harry Potter and other characters.

This is The Zone, which was turned into a magical sensory walk-through exploring

different spells and charms used in the films, which were cause and effect, using switches to turn on lights, creating the effect of spells. Participants also explored the characters in the Harry Potters films, such as Moaning Myrtle, nearly headless Nick, Voldemort, the dementors and Dobby.

There was a butterbeer stand. Butterbeer is a fan favourite of the wizarding world

and was made by participants using butterscotch syrup, soda and butter. It was very sweet, but participants enjoyed it.

The main room was turned into the great hall where the four houses of Harry Potter sit to eat Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and Slytherin. The banners for the houses are up, and the floating candles.

The sensory room was made into a sensory potions class with a sensory story incorporating switches that made the noise of cast spells.

In conclusion, the Harry Potter-themed World Book Day celebration at Acorn Lodge was a huge success. It was a day filled with magic, creativity, and imagination, reminding us of the power of literature to transport us to new and exciting worlds. We can't wait to see what next year's World Book Day celebration will bring!
