It’s been another exciting and enriching week at Options for Life, filled with creativity, community exploration, and plenty of hands-on learning opportunities for our wonderful participants. 🌟
Andrea and Lindsey kicked off the week with a peaceful stroll through Walsall Arboretum, making the most of the sunshine and the beautiful green surroundings 🌳🌞. These nature walks not only offer a refreshing change of scenery but also support mental well-being, physical health, and mindfulness through gentle exercise and connection to the outdoors.
Meanwhile, our music group hit all the right notes during a fascinating presentation on the djembe drum 🥁—a traditional African instrument originating from Mali. Participants took turns playing the drum, learning correct hand placement and exploring its deep cultural roots. These sessions are more than just fun—they’re a way to build rhythm, improve coordination, and promote cultural awareness and group interaction through shared musical experiences.
Over in the art room last Friday, Ellen, Jamie, Natalie, and Gary embraced the spirit of summer through a Hawaiian-themed art session 🎨🌺. They each designed their very own colourful Hawaiian shirts, complete with a beach scene backdrop to complete the tropical vibe 🏖️👕. Art sessions like these encourage self-expression, creativity, and confidence, while giving participants a tangible way to showcase their talents.
The Green Team took a well-deserved break from gardening to step back in time with a trip to the Black Country Living Museum 🏠🕰️. They thoroughly enjoyed exploring the old-style houses and shops and discovering how people lived in days gone by. Antonio had a particularly memorable experience at the shooting gallery, where he showed off his aim and won a cuddly toy 🎯🧸! This outing was not only educational but also a fun way to promote social engagement, curiosity, and a sense of achievement.
At the Ocker Hill hub, participants celebrated inclusion and creativity with a vibrant Pride Art session 🌈✂️. These sessions play a key role in supporting identity, self-worth, and understanding, giving everyone the space to express themselves freely and proudly.
Finally, a big shout-out to Claire, who has been shining in the kitchen! 🍛🍪 She prepared a delicious chicken curry followed by some freshly baked scones. Claire is currently working towards a cooking certificate and is having so much fun on her learning journey. These cooking sessions build essential life skills, independence, and confidence—all while creating tasty treats to share! 👩🍳📜
Through every activity—from creative arts and musical exploration to heritage visits and cooking—participants are gaining valuable life experiences, developing new skills, and, most importantly, having a brilliant time doing it. 💫
We can’t wait to see what next week brings! 💖
